VARCHART XGantt ASP.NET: From an Eagle's View to the Focal Point

CUBUS, a well-known software producer and consultant at Herrenberg (near Stuttgart, Germany) successfully implemented VARCHART XGantt ASP.NET into their software Strategic Project Performance Management (SPPM).

SPPM is a system to plan, monitor and implement long term initiatives that are crucial for the success of the enterprise, such as:

  • Changes of orientation in the enterprise strategies or change projects
  • Large customer projects, such as factory construction
  • Critical F&E projects (such as designing new product families)
  • Approval marks and other legal demands (such as Sarbanes-Oxley)

SPPM supports decision-making of managers, controllers and project supervisors. This requires precise and clear visual representations of the key projects (life spans, mile stones and stoplights). Simultaneously, they need high flexibility to adapt to the specific requirements of all the different application fields.

NETRONIC successfully competed against four other providers of Gantt components and received recognition for VARCHART XGantt ASP.NET after a four-step selection procedure.

"By using NETRONIC VARCHART XGantt ASP.NET we apply a highly flexible software component in our product development, which has considerably accelerated the market entry of our new product. Our customers can plan and control their key projects in a transparent and well-structured way. They can put their strategy succefully into practice", says Heike Bechler, product manager of CUBUS AG.

These are the features by which NETRONIC convinced:

  • State-of-the-art software components (ASP.NET) that correspond to the modern CUBUS technology
  • Applicability on the web
  • Interactive components that, by a single click, allow for changing from a superior eagle's view to detailed focal points
  • Customizing options such as modifying icons, colors or scaling to meet the demands of different customers
  • Prompt and flexible support that meets demands on extensions quickly and adequately

"Our requests could all be fulfilled by VARCHART XGantt ASP.NET, which saved a tremendous amount of time compared to developing a Gantt component by ourselves." The project manager confirmed that NETRONIC had provided qualified support on questions and that they could turn to NETRONIC for extension requests.

So the SPPM standard modules "Survey of Initiatives" and "Progress of an Initiative" use the VARCHART XGantt ASP.NET component, as show the below pictures:

The eagle's view - survey of initiatives

Survey of initiatives with the option of flexible grouping (according to phases, types, business units, strategic relevance etc.). Apart from status and trends of budget, quality and dates, the Gantt graph displays the risk, the attractiveness and a timeline for the duration of the initiatives, including milestones.

The focal point in detail - progress of an initiative

Progress of a single initiative: apart from the present state of an initiative and management guidelines all finished versions are displayed in descending order. New versions can be edited and also simulated. Typical details such as the degree of completion, the class of risk, the status etc. can be supplemented by attributes individual to a customer. At the push of a button a survey of the comments entered up to the finish of a version can be viewed.

Independent of the NETRONIC VARCHART XGantt component, interactive analysis of the portfolio is a standard module of SPPM: the bubble-representation visualizes areas of conflict between attractivity and risk.

At present, the latest release of the CUBUS SPPM is version 2.0. Release 2.1 is planned for the first quarter of 2008. Extended interactivity and resizing options by VARCHART XGantt are projected.
