Version 4.2 of VARCHART XGantt  Available Soon


The new version of VARCHART XGantt which at present is undergoing a rigorous in-house test phase will be available by end of August 2008. In this newsletter we are giving a preview to the enhancements and extensions of the forthcoming version.

1. Dynamic Objects

The list of dynamic objects has been enlarged consistently. The new objects are:

  • DateLine
  • DateLineGridCollection
  • GroupLevelLayout
  • GroupLevelLayoutCollection
  • HierarchyLevelLayout
  • NodeLevelLayout

Dynamic objects cannot only be comfortably configured at design time, but in addition can be created, deleted or modified by all of their features at runtime.

2. Text Boxes
Text boxes serve to display additional information and can now be bound to the position of an activity bar. If an activity changes its position, the associated text box will also move.

3. Mapping
The concept of generating data driven appearances of objects by map tables was enhanced by the option to define ranges of values. This entails smaller and more versatile maps.

4. Legend
Up to now a legend could only be added to a print output. The new version allows to also add one on the screen. The legend optionally may be positioned in a window of its own above the diagram or may be attached to one of the four border areas (top, bottom, left or right).

5. Calendars in Histograms
The capacity offered by resources can be displayed by capacity curves in histograms. Calendars by which periods of availability and non-availability are defined,  can now individually be assigned to histograms and can me made visible by colored sections.

6. Link Routing
When nodes are linked, the way links are routed was enhanced by a new option to be selected. The routing of the links was optimized in a way to ensure that links always consist of unique sections that do not hide each other, so they can be distinguished at any time.

7. Groups
The options to graphically attribute groups have been extended. Simultaneously, programming was facilitated by enabling properties to be assigned directly to group levels instead of merely to individual groups.

8. PNG Export
The size of PNG files that can be generated does no longer depend on the available size of the main memory.

9. Printing
For the print output the extended system print dialog can be activated. It allows to select several page sections to be printed.

10. ASP.NET
In the VARCHART XGantt ASP.NET Edition the options of interaction have been enhanced.

  • Values can be entered and edited in text fields, number fields and date fields in place.
  • The divieders between the table, the diagram and  the histogram can be moved interactively.
  • The view can be scrolled now by moving the slider of the horizontal and vertical scroll bar.
  • Activities can be moved by drag & drop.

11. Change in .NET Framework requirement
The VARCHART XGantt .NET edition and VARCHART XGantt ASP.NET edition use the .NET framework 2.0, instead of the .NET framework 1.1 as in previous versions.
