GRANEDA Dynamic - Frequently Asked Questions
1. How can I modify the annotations of a node in a network or WBS chart?
To modify an existing node annotation or to add a new one, please open the menu Options/Adminstrate Node Annotations, mark the annotation to be modified and click on the symbol Edit Node Annotation (…) to open the corresponding dialog. Here you can modify the settings of each field (data field, graphics, string constant etc.) which are directly shown in the preview. New fields can be generated by clicking on the corresponding insert symbols right above the preview window. The field marked will serve as a template.
Please note that the node annotation is a part of the node appearance. A node annotation added or modified will only show when applied in a node appearance via a filter. So please apply it in the node appearance Standard or in a different node appearance connected to the filter <always>.
2. How can I add a start symbol for GRANEDA Dynamic to Microsoft Project?
Please start Microsoft Project 2000/2002/2003 and set the security settings of the menu Tools– Macro– Security to medium. Then please open the project INSTMAKRO_2000_40.MPP in the directory \DATA. In the following confirmation requests please activate the macros and follow the instructions given. Finally, Microsoft Project will be closed. The GRANEDA Dynamic tool bar with the start symbol will appear after the next start of Microsoft Project.
3. What can I do when the data transfer fails?
The data exchange from Microsoft Project is performed via a Microsoft Access data base for which certain drivers are needed. They belong to the Microsoft Office default installation and can be found in the Windows Start Menu Settings-Control-Panel - Administrative Tools - Data Sources (ODBC). There the name of the data source "Microsoft Access Database" plus its driver "Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)" is expected. If Microsoft Access has not been installed or parts of the software have been installed in different languages, the required source name "Microsoft Access Database" may not be available at all or may be available in a foreign language only. You can add the name of the data source in the menu Settings - Control Panel- Administrative Tools Data Sources (ODBC) on the tab User DSN, or, if you are an adminstrator, by the tab System DSN.
You can download a PDF file that contains a detailed instruction on setting the missing data source manually. Beside, you can download a tool that sets the data source automatically. For versions from 4.0 onward, the data source is automatically set, therefore you should neither need the PDF file nor the tool.

4. How can I convert a trial version into a licenced version?
The trial version of the diagram allows to display 50 activities at most. Even after having purchased and registered the software, I still get the error message on the version that I licensed.
GRANEDA Dynamic offers three different types of diagrams (network diagrams, tree diagrams and Gantt diagrams) that can be purchased as single modules. Because in a version by default all modules are activated, the ones that were not licensed produce the trial version message.
Please open a project using the default specification. For Microsoft project, this is MSPROJECT2000.GSP. Please click OK in the "trial version" message, if it occurs. Since you licensed at least one out of three modules, the message must not occur more often than twice. If it does, the licensing was not successful. Please open the menu View and remove the ticks from the check boxes of the diagrams that you did not purchase. Please close the menu and save the specification via File - Save Graphics specification. When opening another project, the message will not occur any more.
6. What does the error message "Temporary GSP could not be created" mean?
The message appears if writing is not permitted in the working directory. You can verify this by Options > edit settings. Writing is also not permitted if GRANEDA Dynamic was copied or moved to a different dirctory. If you did this, only re-installing GRANEDA Dynamic in the desired directory will help.
7. How can Groups be Collapsed or Expanded in a Gantt Chart?
To collapse groups of activities, activities need to be grouped before. You can switch on or off grouping by the calls grouping on and grouping off in the layout menu or by the corresponding buttons in the task bar.
The Edit grouping dialog allows to set the grouping criteria in the dialog and the appearance of the groups. The dialog can be invoked by a call of the same name from the layout menu. Groups can now be displayed in an collapsed or expanded state.
When expanded, each activity is displayed in a separate row. If you ticked the check box All nodes in one row in the Edit grouping dialog, the activities of a group will be displayed in a row, if possible. Only to avoid overlaps another row would be generated.
In a collapsed state, all activities of a group will be displayed in a single row, even if they overlap.
To collapse expanded groups or to expand collapsed groups, please click the right mouse button while the mouse is on the group header. From the menu popping up, select the menu item Collapse or Expand. You can also collapse or expand a goup by double-clicking on the group header.
8. How can workfree periods be collapsed?
If you exclusively wish to display working days, pleas activate the check box Collapse workfree periods in the Dialog Options > Specify Timescale > Timescale selections. Workfree periods will then be hidden. In GRANEDA Dyanmic 3.0 a pre-defined calendar will be used for this.
9. How can I set minutes to the time scale?
Please click on Options, then on Specify time scale. Select the desired scale in the field time scale. Please click on the ... button in the top right corner of the dialog. The dialog Edit time scale section will open. Set the minutes in in the field Type of the Ribbon, and below the hours. You can also set the line grid to minutes by the field Type in the field line grid.
10. How can activity data be displayed in a bar of the chart?
If you wish, for example, the duration of an activity to appear as a figure within the bar, please click on Options, then on Specify bar appearance. In the dialog popping up please select the layer concerned and click on the three dots ... to edit the layer. In the dialog popping up, please click on Annotation, select the data field Duration and quit the dialog by OK. The duration from now on will be displayed in all bars that hold the corresponding layer type.
11. How can I realize that licensing was successful?
In the licensing dialog in the field Licensed features the features licensed are listed in black rather than in a light gray color. The features in black are the ones successfully licensed.
12. How can all nodes of a group be displayed in a single row?
Your chart can be optimized by displaying the nodes of a group in a single row. For this, please invoke the dialog Edit grouping via the menu Layout. Activate the check box All nodes in one row. In case nodes overlap, additional rows will be generated. By this type of layout, links between nodes will not be displayed.
If you wish each node to be displayed in its own row, please deactivate the check box All nodes in one row.
13. How can layer annotations be wrapped into several lines?
To wrap layer annotations, please click succeedingly on the below menus and dialogs:
Options > Time Scale > Specify Bar Apearance. Select a bar appearance and click on the ... to edit the layer. In the Edit Layer dialog, click on the Annotation button and activate the marker Text width/height definable in the bottom right corner. In the Annotation dialog popping up you can set the number of lines of the annotation.
14. How do I get to the Primavera3 interface?
The Primavera3 interface is contained in the GRANEDA-Dynamic setup and is therefore immediately available to you.
Please start GRANEDA Dynamic and click in the file menu on Open project... . Please select the graphics specification ipprima3.gsp. In the field project data please click on the ... button to select a Primavera3 project. If you use Primavera 5 or 6, you can export the data to the P3 format and thus use our P3 interface.
