Web-based Gantt Application as AddOn for Microsoft Dynamics NAV

NaviServ is a start-up company, located in St Petersburg, and specialized as a Microsoft Dynamics Solution Provider for the ERP-Solution Microsoft Dynamics NAV in Russia. The NaviServ team members are former consultants of Technoserv Consulting and Reksoft, so that the company can draw upon a broad expertise in business process optimization.

When looking for a software solution to manage and control their production orders in their different plants, IKP, a manufacturer of plastic containers, contacted NaviServ. Microsoft Dynamics NAV did not fulfil all their planning requirements so NaviServ offered an extended solution: the standard production planning is performed by Microsoft Dynamics NAV whereas for the specific control of the production orders the data from Dynamics NAV are transferred to an additional, newly developed Gantt chart application, built as a web based stand-alone solution. The web architecture is required to grant all plants access to the SQL database of Microsoft Dynamics NAV.

"Efficient production management presupposes application of common highly effective tools of planning and analysis. Therefore, since the very beginning of the project aimed at implementation of Microsoft Dynamics NAV, we have believed it to be crucial to realize the functional of Gantt chart that is not available in the standard version. We are immensely pleased to note that the specialists of NaviServ were able to realize this much expected solution and offer it to us", states Mark Dagin, Director of IKP plants.

To realize the additional Gantt chart application NaviServ uses NETRONIC´s VARCHART XGantt .NET Edition. In the diagram the production orders are visualized by the load time of machines required to perform the line of production in the different locations, hierarchically grouped by work centre and machine centre. The user has several options to easily specify the data shown in the diagram: He can choose the plant, the work centre and the time scale (month/day/week..). He can also select the date on which the data of the production orders should be visualized. Tool tips with order related information like code and name of the customer, number of sales orders, quantity of products, remaining amount of products to be manufactured are available on mouse click.

Blue indicates the production orders already finished whereas orders in progress are shown as brown bars. The brown color shifts to grey-brown for the remaining products to be manufactured.

Non-operating periods are displayed in pink. In this screenshot the day selected for visualizing the data is 23 June 2011.

The user can interactively change the planned order by simple drag and drop. Due to the web architecture of the Gantt application the changes will immediately be available in Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
