Reifenhäuser Develops Service Planning Table With VARCHART JGantt

The Reifenhäuser Software Consulting GmbH is distribution partner of the Automation + Productivity AG. Reifenhäuser does not only support medium-sized companies in selecting and implementing the ERP solution APplus but also adapts the software to the need of the customers if necessary. Moreover, Reifenhäuser develops individual solutions for their customers.

When the company IMS Messsysteme GmbH was looking for a suitable solution for the resource scheduling of their service engineers, they consulted Reifenhäuser Software. IMS is one of the leading manufacturers of industrial X-ray, isotope and optical measurement systems for the steel, aluminium and metalworking industry. As the company has an international network of branches, it was essential for the resource scheduling to cover the implementing as well as the maintenance and repair orders of all plants all over the world.

Based on the requirements of IMS, Reifenhäuser recommended an enhancement of the APplus service module. Being a browser-oriented solution, APplus allows data and information exchange across locations. It is completely based on the Microsoft .Net technology. All ERP data and functions are generated and displayed in XML and Web Services. The enhancement enables the recording of every service order – whether implementation, repair or maintenance - by the service module. The scheduling is then carried out on branch level including every member of staff and allowing the department managers to make individual corrections if needed.

In collaboration with IMS, Reifenhäuser Software has developed an additional graphical planning table to provide a better overview of the scheduling and the service assignments. For that purpose, the data from the APplus system is visualized by the graphic component VARCHART JGantt.

Planning Table "Staff"

The planning table "Staff" shows the individual staff members and their deployments, scheduled absences as holidays and other reservations.

Service order number and plant are displayed in the Layer. The color indicates the type of service assignment: implementation (blue) or repair (red). In case of a change of date or the absence of a staff member, the layers (i.e. service orders) can be shifted horizontally or vertically in the chart. Assignments that are outlined in red are fixed and can't be moved any more. Seeing the red rhomb at the end of the layer the planner knows that more order details are available and can be displayed by a right mouse click. The characters at the beginning of the layer show the status of the assignment. Of course, the planning table allows creating new assignments that can be saved in APplus. Further assignment details can be called up by tooltips.

Another view, grouped by plants, shows the scheduled assignments per plant. The chart's functions are the same as in the staff planning table.

Today, every department of IMS all over the world is equipped with the software solution APplus and the interactive planning table developed by Reifenhäuser. By using this tools the persons in charge always have an up-to-date overview of the scheduled assignments and the plants that have to be attended to. Without losing time and information they can schedule and control the deployment of their service staff in an optimal way and can promptly react to modifications.

Planning Table "Project"

In a further step, the service deployment scheduling was recently expanded to a company-wide personnel deployment scheduling. Now, also every step of a project as well as the production steps that are scheduled for production and test bay are visualized and can be edited interactively in the planning table. Thus, further views of the data were needed and added. With the tables Project, Manufacturing and Test Bay there are now five different planning tables available that can be customized individually.
