Esh Schedules Patients by Using VARCHART XNet

The healthcare system today is forced to bear a high cost pressure. Doctors, hospitals and medical organizations in general have to work hard to manage their resources in order to save costs, speed up processes and reduce administrative efforts.

One of the most successful specialists to support medical organizations in managing their resources is Esh Software Design & Implementation, located in Ontario, Canada. Since 1998 the company offers the award-winning hospital management software solution Esh-IGT.

The approach of Esh-IGT is to create an integrated patient-centric solution for all three key drivers Clinical, Research and Operational by using industrial engineering methodology. This solution views the patient case procedure as a “manufacturing work order” and applies ERP methodology to the patient care procedure using a single integrated database. Consequently, the data is entered once and can be used by everyone – from managers to physicians to support staff.

To visualize the room schedule, Esh-IGT uses NETRONIC's VARCHART XNet ActiveX control. In the first step the hospital-booking department scans the “order” from the referring physician into Esh-IGT. After this the requisition goes through additional steps to determine the Exam Type, Exam Duration, Anesthesia Type, and Overnight Bed.

Once these steps are completed the requisition is scheduled and the patient is notified on the date and time of the exam. At this point the new schedule is recorded in VARCHART XNet and appears as a block in the exam room column.

VARCHART XNet visualizes the patient’s case template in a combination based on colours. For example, the colour of the first row indicates whether the patient requires overnight bed, the colour of the last row shows the anesthesia type GA, Sedation of None. The colors of the 6 middle rows indicate the current state of the treatment.

Following the initial schedule in VARCHART XNet, the booking office will be tracking the process by updating the information in Esh-IGT. Each time an update is done to the scheduled requisition the colour of the VARCHART XNet box will change. The colours show the flow of the patients from the time they were scheduled until they complete the exam.

With VARCHART XNet and the constantly updated information every change in the patient’s case and status is available immediately in the exam rooms and allows the physician to easily see the current status of his patients.

"The decision to use VARCHART XNet was done because it is the best tool to use for scheduling patients by rooms and to track the patient’s status by using colour indicators. Esh software was very pleased from the service and customisations accomplished by the NETRONIC team. Ziv Shnitzer, president of Esh Software.

Esh-IGT does not only schedule the patients fast and clearly, but also supports seamlessly effective decision making across the hospital for administration, patient care and accounting. Esh is winner of a poster presentation at the 2007 SIR Annual Scientific Meeting.
